Public action- Raising awareness on social inclusion of people with disabilities

Published: 2019-03-08

Young people, eager for advocating their peers to influence social change and to influence social determinants of community problems, in particular in organizing collective activities as well as raising awareness, today visited the Day Care Center in Tetovo.

The youngsters of the Club of young emerging leaders as part of their public action project, decided to dedicate their day to children with special needs and play games and entertain them through art and craft. Youngsters through their engagement wanted to raise public awareness and let other citizens know they should also hang out and contribute to the wellbeing of people with special needs who are part of our society. As part of the campaign they also engaged the business sector from whom they seek support. We are very thankful to @Restaurant Delfin for providing us dresses of animated cartoons in order to entertain the participants of Day Care Center and Sweets Shop @Bona Mi for providing a cake for the participants of Day Care Center. The young leaders successfully managed to send the message of unity and the importance that leaders have on contributing for their community and caring for others, lesions they learned during the three-month trainings of the Club. This activity was implemented within the frames of project "The power of youth voice in the Polog region", supported by European Union through the project "Changes for sustainability" implemented by Konekt in partnership with Apollonia Foundation and Center for Tax Policy.

Debates with youngsters

Published: 2019-03-07

For the transition from learning to public speaking to constructing and responding to arguments in a competitive environment, after the completion of the Club of young emerging leaders, we started organizing the debates.

Two debates were realized with students from the high schools in Tetovo, with the following topics “The secondary education is mandatory, it should be or not?” and “Improving the quality of teaching in secondary schools”.

In these two debates, the students' skills were visible as effective debaters with coherent formulated arguments, quickly understanding and reviewing reputations, and criticizing the claims of their opponents. The way of analyzing and formulating opinions on important social issues related to them was the most focusing point of the debates.

Movie night

Published: 2019-02-21

On 20th of February 2019, the participants of the Club of young emerging leaders, organized the Movie night at the city center. This open air movie projection transmitted the message that their city lacks a cinema. The idea of this activity came through preparations of the youth initiatives in order to raise citizens awareness for different phenomena that hinders them in the community they live. Youngsters from different ethnicities and students from all the high schools in Tetovo, gathered to raise their voice for a more fulfilled cultural life in their community.

The lack of cinema means a lot for our cultural identity. The existence of a cinema, even a simple one with minimal conditions, remains still a long lasting need.

We will continue supporting the future leaders in their personal and professional development. Their ideas and initiatives will be always welcomed and will be transformed into activities that contribute towards positive changes in our community.

The activities of this project are supported by Konekt, through the project "Changes for sustainability", which is financed by the European Union and implemented by Konekt in partnership with Apollonia Foundation and Center for Tax Policy.

Ending the Club of young emerging leaders

Published: 2019-02-13

And the Club of young emerging leaders came to the end. We’re likely both exhausted and energized from long days and meaningful work for the couple of weeks in a row.

We were focused on these skills on our course due to the importance and influence they have on young people achieving a sturdy and successful career. Perseverance, commitment, planning, motivating and communication through active listening are all vital and part of being a leader.

When people ask your opinion, how do you respond in the most effective manner? What are the keys area to cover when debating and speaking to the public?

Composing presentations, lectures in a class size of 35 students and undertaking projects in teams are just a few parts of our Club of young emerging leaders.

We offered impact, a 9-week leadership, public speaking and debate workshop that imparts key skills coupled with attitudinal training and practice allowing participants to overcome their fear and become effective and confident public speakers.

The activities of this project are supported by Konekt, through the project "Changes for sustainability", which is financed by the European Union and implemented by Konekt in partnership with Apollonia Foundation and Center for Tax Policy.
